from the artist: “We carry with us the stories of our ancestors, the stories of those who have raised us, the stories of where we come from. These narratives are tied into our beings, twisted and knotting around our own experience, both informing us and creating a veil. This is particularly true of mothers. The title “mother” carries with it the weight of all the mothers before you – their joy and sorrows; their triumphs, dreams, and failures; what they could accomplish and all that they could not. A legacy often unwritten, passed down in kitchens, over coffee, on walks to the grocery store and in-between singing bedtime songs.

Death of an Oyster explores the intersection between personal experience, familial narrative, and domestic space. It is a meditative practice rooted in the immediacy of motherhood and curation of space surrounding that experience.”
